Lodi was first put on the map back in 1869 when settlers decided to build a station there as part of the Central Pacific Railroad. It was officially incorporated as a town in 1906, and several well-known buildings such as Carnegie Library and the Lodi Opera House were built during this period. Since then Lodi has grown into a very popular tourist destination.

When to Visit Lodi, California

Lodi has hot and humid summers followed by cool and wet winters. If you want to visit the Lodi and explore the vineyards while they are ripe with grapes, Spring is the best time to come. While the wineries are open year-round, April and May are wonderful times to see emerald green rows of vines. Temperatures hover around 75 degrees during the day and there is very little humidity. To top it all off, this is the shoulder season for hotels, so you can get a great deal if you visit in the spring.

Summer is the busiest time to visit Lodi. You can expect temperatures of 90 degrees Fahrenheit during the day with evenings dropping as low as 55 degrees, so be sure to pack accordingly. Summer is a wonderful time to explore the vineyards and enjoy all of the al fresco dining options the city has to offer. It's also when hotel prices are at their peak, so be sure to book your trip well in advance if you want to get a good price.

You can still enjoy warm weather through early fall without the summer crowds. Northern California is a wonderful place to see fall foliage, and the views from some of the vineyards of the surrounding area are simply breathtaking. Hotel prices drop slightly from September to November, so you can enjoy all that the area has to offer at a lower rate than the summer months.

Winter is one of the quietest times to visit Lodi. The winter is the rainiest and foggiest season of the year, which means you likely won't see very much of the vineyards. If you'd rather enjoy the museums, the architecture, and the exquisite food from local restaurants, winter can be a lovely time to visit Lodi. Hotel prices are at their lowest in January and February, so you can explore the city, sample its famous Zinfandel, and enjoy a great hotel at a discounted rate.
