It offers an ideal climate of cool and dry summers as well as mild winters, with the hills to the west shielding it from fog predominantly experienced by neighboring areas. The city of South San Francisco is not really a tourist destination but it is home to attractions unique in the area. When in the city, visitors must go to Sign Hill and see the huge steel letters on the mountainside that reads "South San Francisco The Industrial City". For some rest and recreation, even meeting with the local folks, the best place to be is at the Orange Memorial Park. When in South San Francisco, visitors must try the specialties in Bertolucci, a local Italian restaurant that has been around as early as the city. Locals and visitors alike can also enjoy the one bowling alley in the city, the Brentwood Bowl. During the months of May and all through October, the city hosts the South San Francisco Farmers Market, a much await event for locals that many of the city's visitors have especially enjoyed.
