Redwood City: Fog, Rain, and Layers

California's northern climate is very different than the south. Visitors to the Redwood National Forest or other parks need to come prepared for anything! Weather changes often and is unpredictable, so wear layers to accommodate and pack rain gear. Hikers need to wear shoes with soles that don't slip because the damp forest floors can be slippery.

The climate in Redwood is considered cool with temperatures averaging between the mid-40s to the low-60s. In the winter, the weather is cool and wet, but the summer brings with it fog near the coast, but sunnier weather and higher temperatures inland. The average high is in the fifties and occurs in June and July, while the fall temperatures begin the drop to the forties. Dress in layers year round to be prepared for the temperature changes.
