Summer in Georgia is hot and humid, while winter is generally mild with a couple of winter storms per year that shutter the town but usually melt quickly. Spring begins in March and ushers in flowers and neon yellow pollen, coating everything in its path with a cloud of fine dust and plenty of allergy suffering. With the abundance of hardwood forests, fall is a painted canvas of oranges, reds, and yellows before the leaves fall and bring in the winter chill.
Winter temperatures average around the mid-50s for highs and mid-30s and 40s for lows. It rains in the winter, with an average rainfall around 5 inches in each of the winter months. Snowstorms aren't frequent, with an average of around 2" of snowfall per year, but most southern towns don't have the plow equipment to clear the roads safely, so snowstorms effectively shut things down. It's worth being aware of any snow in the forecast if you plan on visiting in the winter because you might get stuck.
The average temperatures in the spring and fall are similar, with highs in the 70s and 80s, and lows in the 40s and 50s. You're likely to encounter an afternoon rainstorm in the spring, which can be a welcome sight when the pollen is rampant. Early spring and late fall see a noticeable decrease in humidity.
The summers are sticky and warm, with average temperatures in the mid-80s and lows in the low 70s, with frequent heat indexes into the 90s. If you're unaccustomed to humid temperatures, you might feel like you've never dried off from your morning shower, or wonder why your hair seems so frizzy. The summer brings afternoon and evening thunderstorms that can be severe.
