The Smithsonian Castle, the headquarters of the Smithsonian Institution, is located in central Washington D.C., in the National Mall area between the Washington Monument and the U.S. Capitol building. It houses the information center and administrative offices of the Smithsonian, as well as a permanent exhibit about the Smithsonian Institution. Admission is free, with hours from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily except for December 25. The easiest access to the Castle is the Metro, with the Smithsonian Metro station nearby. Surrounding this building in the National Mall, and in other locations around the country, are the many museums comprising the Smithsonian, most open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. every day but Christmas, with free admission. Or you can explore the historic neighborhoods in the D.C. area, such as Foggy Bottom, Georgetown, Adams Morgan, and more, with their restaurants, clubs, and unique historic sites. Just travel around many of these communities to see 18th and 19th century houses still standing. The White House, U.S. Capitol, Supreme Court, and many more government buildings are here too, some of which you can tour.
