The Gainesville center is around 1 mile northeast of Robert Trent Jones Golf Club and 6 miles west of Prince William Hospital.

Gainesville, Virginia, is a census-designated area of just over 10 square miles in Prince William County with more than 11,000 residents. Gainesville was named by Thomas Jefferson upon his arrival at this stagecoach horse stop in 1752. It then became a shipping point for cattle, timber, and grain, and remained a major part of the cattle trade until the mid-1960s. It also served as a path for soldiers during the Civil War. In 1994, Gainesville broke ground for the area's first townhouse community, which would herald rapid development in the area as well as in neighboring Haymarket. Six large shopping centers have been built in Gainesville since 2000, including big-box stores like Walgreens, Target, DSW, Wegman's, and Lowe's. Gainesville was named one of the best cities for young families in Virginia by NerdWallet and is located just 30 miles from Washington, D.C. More from this guide...
