Reston, Virginia, has four distinct seasons. The timing of your visit will have a big impact on the activities and weather you can enjoy while you're in town. The spring months in Reston begin chilly but warm up quickly, with average highs of 56 in March, 67 in April, and 75 in May. Fairfax County hosts the National Cherry Blossom Festival in April. May sees numerous annual events including the Sunset Celebration at Mount Vernon, Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival, McLean Day, and Mount Vernon Spring Wine Festival and Sunset Tour.

As the summer heats up, so does the calendar in Fairfax County. The Reston Farmer's Market takes place every Saturday from May through October. June sees the Herndon Festival, Celebrate Fairfax, Innovations in Flight Family Day, Vintage Virginia, and more. In July, you can visit An American Celebration at Mount Vernon. August hosts the annual Sully Historic Site Civil War Days. This is a popular season to visit because children are on summer vacation, but the weather isn't ideal if you struggle with hot temperatures. The average highs are in the mid to upper 80s from June to August.

Fall is a breathtaking season in Reston. Temperatures drop rapidly with average highs of just 79 in September, 68 in October, and 58 in November. In September, you can visit the Clifton Labor Day Chili Cookoff and Antique Car Show, Virginia Indian Festival at Riverbend Park, Mount Vernon Colonial Market Fair, and Virginia Wine Festival at Bull Run Regional Park. October brings the Northern Virginia Fall Brewfest.

In December, you can experience holiday festivities like Christmas at Mount Vernon with 12 decorated trees and a giant gingerbread house. The Meadowlark Gardens' Winter Walk of Lights features more than 500,000 LED lights. December sees an average high of 46 and low of 27. Temperatures are similar in January in February, and the events calendar slows to a crawl. Come the end of February, however, you can begin to warm up again with the City of Fairfax Chocolate Lovers Festival leading into spring.

"Great Options for a Visit but Congested from Rapid Growth"
Score 5.0 / 5

Shopping: many stores I don't have close to my home. However, Reston is growing in leaps and bounds, the traffic is awful. I've never sat at such long traffic lights. Nice to visit but I would not want to live there.
