The town is named after Harrison Braselton, a poor farmer who married Susan Hosch, the daughter of a wealthy plantation owner. Braselton purchased 786 acres of land north of the Hosch Plantation and built a home there. Later, the land was called Braselton, and the Braselton Brothers Department Store opened in the early 1900s. The Braselton Town Hall is the former home of one of the Braselton brothers. The entire downtown area is part of the National Register of Historic Places, and many of the buildings were recently restored.
When should you visit Braselton, GA?
The best time to visit Braselton is from May to July when you can enjoy the warm summer weather and lots of events and outdoor activities. If something fun isn't happening in Braselton, you can find something to do in Atlanta or one of the many nearby towns. August can be uncomfortably hot and humid, especially for seniors, but September and early October often have nice weather that's not too hot or too cold. You can also take a road trip and look at all the beautiful fall leaves.
For the best hotel rates, visit after Christmas and New Year's Eve in January or February. Even in the middle of winter, temperatures are usually higher in the South than in the rest of the United States. It's usually about 50 degrees Fahrenheit during the day, so outdoor activities can still be fun for people willing to wear warm clothing.
