Azusa experienced its first Mexican settlement in 1841 at the Rancho el Susa. In 1844, owner Luis Arenas sold the land to Henry Dalton, a wealthy merchant and English immigrant who dubbed the property Rancho Azusa de Dalton. Dalton built a distillery, winery, vinegar house, flour mill, smokehouse, and his own home at Dalton Hill. By 1870, the U.S. census listed the area as the Azusa – El Monte Township. The Los Angeles and San Gabriel Valley Railroad was completed in 1887 and later sold to the Santa Fe railroad, bringing new people to the area.
Today, the city's motto is, “Azusa stands for everything from A to Z in the U.S.A.” The area is home to nature preserves, numerous hiking trails, urban parks, and other recreation areas that make it a great spot for families and adventurous travelers to visit. It also provides an easy commute to Los Angeles. Whatever your reason for visiting Azusa, it's important to find the perfect accommodations that allow you to explore everything this beautiful region of California has to offer.
