Ford Motor Company maintained an assembly line in Pico Rivera called the "Los Angeles Assembly." The plant was opened in 1958 and by 1965 15,000 workers were churning out half a million cars annually. Los Angeles's auto production even rivaled that of Detroit. Foreign imports plunged the US auto market into recession during the 1970s, and in an on-going effort by auto-industry executives to streamline production and move assembly lines closer to the part suppliers and transport links, the Los Angeles Assembly closed on January 31, 1980.
Situated between Los Angeles and Anaheim, Pico Rivera is close to several popular attractions and destinations. A few minutes' drive beyond downtown LA gets you to the famous Hollywood and Vine crossroads. Heading the other direction, the Citadel Outlets is a popular shopping destination, and the Medieval Times Dinner Theater provides an awesome, knight-themed experience complete with jousts, sword-fighting, and grog. Also, only a short drive away is the Hawaiian Gardens Casino, a deluxe casino with its own dining, entertainment, and tournament play to offer.
