Even though Manhattan is not connected to it by land, the best way to get to Brooklyn is to walk across its namesake bridge. The 1883 completion of the Brooklyn Bridge transformed the borough from a spacious suburb that still contained areas of farmland into a bustling city. Stroll or bike across the pedestrian walkway at the center of the bridge for spectacular views of lower Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty, and New York harbor as it opens at the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. To the north, you'll see a series of bridges linking Manhattan to other parts of Brooklyn and Queens, as well as the jewel-like tops of the Empire State and Chrysler Buildings. Great city. It is safe for a getaway
The city of Brooklyn - has got that small town feel - especially all its little neighborhoods - I think a lot of people if not all - miss that small town feel of years ago - which meant community and knowing our neighbors. We all yearn for that closeness instead of being just one of thousands.

Many of the people in the group had not been to NY. They could not believe how crowded it was. It was exciting and a lot to see.
We were in town to tour Pratt Institute, where my daughter is interested in attending college. We enjoyed being able to walk to our destinations as long as our feet held out! We went down to the DUMBO area for the flea market on Sunday, which was fun. We ended up walking to the Brooklyn Bridge and saw the Statue of Liberty and the new World Trade Center tower. If we had had more time, we would have taken the water taxi over to Manhattan. The food was great every where we went!
Staying in Brooklyn makes for an easy and economical commute into Manhattan.

Brooklyn Museum was fantastic, with easy parking. If you love heavenly donuts, go to Dough on Lafayette Street. Great ambiance, food, and service at Chez Oskar. And if you are an artist, visit the Brooklyn Art Library, full of sketchbooks from all over the world!
