Lake Geneva was named “Muck-Suck” for a Potawatomi chief.

In the 1850s, the railroad made traveling to the area faster, which resulted in Lake Geneva becoming a retreat for the wealthy.

With the influx of wealthy transplants, mansions were constructed throughout the latter part of the century, which encouraged the nickname, “The Newport of the West.”
