Carmel Valley is a suburb of San Diego and a newer neighborhood, constructed in the 1980s. It is named for the Carmelite Sisters of Mercy, who owned a dairy farm and a monastery in what would later become Carmel Valley. Prior to receiving its current name in the 1990s, the project was referred to as North City West. This location should not be confused with California's other Carmel Valley, located about six hours north, near Monterey.

Today, people choose to live in Carmel Valley because it is a safe and beautiful suburb just outside the heart of San Diego. However, people choose to visit because of the excellent shopping choices and the opportunity to get back into nature with the Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve. No matter what you plan to do in Carmel Valley, the first and most important step is to find a hotel that is well suited to meet your needs.

When to Visit Carmel Valley, CA

The best time to visit Carmel Valley is during April and May. The temperatures are warm, and there are fewer crowds than during other seasons. Nearby food festivals mean that you can try out various cuisines all in a single day. The hotels are moderately priced during this time, so it is possible to find the perfect hotel room at an affordable rate.

The summer is the busiest time to visit Carmel Valley. It is also the hottest time of year, which makes it the perfect time to participate in outdoor recreation. Despite the hot sun, sometimes the area has a cool ocean breeze, especially at night, so you'll want to pack accordingly. Carmel Valley room rates are most expensive in the summer, and rooms are more likely to sell out. Plan to book your hotel room as soon as you know that you are traveling to the area during the summer so that you have the best choices.

It would be a good idea to travel to Carmel Valley in the fall when the weather is more comfortable and the crowds are relatively small. Sometimes the rainy season starts as early as October, which could make outdoor plans less desirable, but the hotels are less expensive, so it could be a good compromise.

The winters are fairly mild in Carmel Valley. If you are comfortable with relatively cool weather or plan to participate in indoor activities, the winter can be a good time to visit. It is the least expensive time to visit, and getting a good deal on a hotel room is easy.
