Burial mounds in Kleztsch Park are a reminder of the Potawatomi Indian villages that once stood where modern-day Glendale does now. Along with the Winnebago people, the Potawatomi surrendered their land to the United States government in 1833 and moved to lands west of the Mississippi River. The affordable, fertile land and pleasant climate lured many European settlers, especially immigrants from Germany, to the new community. During that time, the area was known as the Town of Milwaukee.
Portions of the Town of Milwaukee became Glendale when it was incorporated in late 1950. The city experienced rapid growth during that decade, in line with post-World War II metropolitan growth throughout the nation.
Glendale's motto “Rich past, bright future” recognizes its history and its refusal to rest on its laurels. Its diverse stores, recent downtown revitalization, and community spirit make it a great choice for your next vacation.
