Pikesville is the northwestern suburb closest to the Baltimore city limits. It sits along the Interstate-795 corridor linking communities like Reisterstown and Owings Mills to the Baltimore Beltway. Pikesville also contains one of the largest Jewish populations in the state.
The city gets its name from American explorer and general Zebulon Pike, for whom Pikes Peak in Colorado also was named. During the 19th and early 20th centuries, Jewish immigrants formed communities in East Baltimore and began moving outside the city after World War II. Many of them moved to Pikesville, which was still a sleepy outpost on a major roadway at that time. Following the Vietnam War, many Jewish businesses left Baltimore for Pikesville to escape the riots.
Today, Pikesville remains the center of Baltimore's Jewish community. In fact, many of the state's largest Jewish schools and synagogues are located around Pikesville. The suburb is highly rated for its ethnic and economic diversity, safe neighborhoods, beautiful landscaping, and above-average infrastructure.
No matter your reason for visiting Pikesville, it's important to find the right hotel that allows you to enjoy everything this wonderful suburb has to offer.
