It was nice to be able to walk where we were going. Downtown was very clean and I felt safe walking everywhere we went.
Easy to get around, clean city, everyone was friendly. As a single traveler I never felt threatened or nervous when I was out exploring Des Moines & Iowa the state!
Beautiful city for walking. The buildings near my downtown hotel are a wonderful mix of modern and turn of the century design.
Options nearby- restaurants, shopping, and coffee (Starbucks). The hotel had easy access to interstate and downtown Des Moines.
Wesley Acres Retirement Center on Grand Avenue. Memorial Service for a friend there.
Right across from hospital. So was able to sleep in longer.

The city of Des Moines seemed very clean. We felt safe walked to And from the Casey center for a concert venue. Look forward to exploring more of Des Moines next time we're there.

The hockey game and local bar scene was fantastic. We also enjoyed the Breakfast Club for our Sat morning gathering!
Visited the botanical gardens close by. The gardens were a great place to visit during the cold January month to get away from the freezing temps. Live music playing and beautiful well maintained plants and trees with waterfalls

Des Moines was a pleasant surprise! The East Village had some great local shops and restaurants.
I lived here for 45 years, leaving for Minneapolis for family reasons, and I miss the place. Since I moved here in 1980, this p lace has grown up. Drake University, across the street, is a first class private school, and there are many good shopping areas, as well as typical college town amenities, concerts, museums,, etc. Iowa State University is 45 minutes away.
It was very near to my destination.

The softball field we played at was a very clean and nice facility that had no fees to watch games.
So many parks and walkways, fireworks were great! Lots of stores were open in the evening during the week - that was pretty cool! Music at the Capital! GOODGUYS CAR SHOW WAS EPIC! President Trump Event with the 250 Anniversary America was epic. We loved eating at Liberty's and the Iowa Taproom for evening meals. We loved that Hyvee was just down the road for Starbucks and Snacks. Scoop Me Up Jay for a ride service was fantastic! The HUGE variety of things to see, do, and just enjoy, was really suprising. We loved it so much we plan to make this an annual event. A great trip!
