Foothill Ranch is one of the area's newest master-planned communities. As such, the 2,700-acre community features a nice balance of residential, business, and wilderness space close to the San Diego and Santa Ana freeways. Foothill Ranch also boasts a convenient location near Orange County's premier retail centers, entertainment venues, restaurants, and educational institutions, making it the perfect home base for exploring this popular California region.
Foothill Ranch was annexed into the City of Lake Forest in 2000. The local community, El Toro, sprang up from the influx of settlers in 1863. Many pioneers who lived around El Toro, including in the foothills, were the first settlers in the region. El Toro quickly became the epicenter of the Saddleback Valley until the end of the 20th century when businesses moved away and it started to decline.
City planners and property owners worked diligently to rebuild the community, regulating in the creation of the Arbor at Lake Forest commercial district. The city was officially incorporated as Lake Forest in 1991, just a few years before taking on the Foothill Ranch community. The expansion into Foothill Ranch brought new commercial centers and homes into Lake Forest's boundaries. Today, it is ranked as one of the safest cities in the entire country.
Whatever your reason for visiting Foothill Ranch, it's important to find the right hotel that allows you to enjoy everything Lake Forest and its surrounding communities have to offer.
