It was first established in 1822 and slowly constructed through the years. By 1839, it had a post office and general store, along with an observation tower, restaurant, and club at the summit of the mountain. These shops – combined with the beauty of the mountain – attracted visitors for years until the city's destruction during the Civil War.
Stone Mountain has since grown into a thriving tourist destination by visitors who are eager to climb to the mountain's top and enjoy amazing scenery and park events. But no matter why you visit Stone Mountain, it's important that you find the right hotel for your needs so you can enjoy your trip.

If you'd rather not deal with hot summer weather, September to November is a great time to visit the city. Best of all, there are still many events to enjoy during the season, such as the Pumpkin Festival, Country Living Fair, and Highland Games.
To save the most money, planning a trip between December and March is your best bet. The cold temperatures and icy weather deter most tourists and force hotel and airfare prices down considerably.
