The Farragut Square area in downtown D.C. is full of commercial buildings, professional offices, restaurants and more, but with little residential property. Located just to the north of the White House, this area centers around a statue of David G. Farragut, the "First Admiral in the Navy" during the civil war. The square holds lunchtime events during some parts of the year, including "Farragut Sounds in the Square," a jazz concert series during the summer. Restaurants and food stands here offer a variety of choices, including Ethiopian, Indian, Italian, and Asian foods. Near Farragut Square are many of D.C.'s attractions, including government buildings like the White House and the Capitol Building for you to see. Also, the museums of the Smithsonian are not far away, with free admission for the most part and hours from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Numerous monuments and memorials are everywhere in the area, including the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, memorials to many of the wars Americans have fought in, and more. Parking around Farragut Square and these other attractions is available on some streets; however, it fills up quickly, so the best transportation to the area is the Metro, with two stations at Farragut Square, Farragut West and Farragut North, on different Metro lines, and other stations throughout the buildings and monuments. A number of WMATA Metrobus lines serve the area as well, and there are numerous parking garages in the area.
