San Francisco's Bay to Breakers Race takes place every year in May, starting a few blocks away from the Embarcadero near San Francisco Bay and ending at the Great Highway, which is near Ocean Beach, hence the term "breakers." The course is 7.5 miles and includes everything from serious runners to participants wearing costumes and even some almost-naked runners. In 1986, the Bay to Breakers Race had 110,000 runners, making it the largest footrace in the world. This record, however, was broken in 2010.
