The Stone Mountain center point is around 1 mile southeast of Zenith Labor Net and 2 miles west of Georgia's Stone Mountain Park.
Stone Mountain is a great destination to visit year-round, but a great time to plan a trip is between May and August. During these months, there are many events and festivals, including Memorial Day Weekend, Summer at the Rock, and the Fantastic Fourth Celebration. Just be sure to make your hotel reservations early; the summertime is peak season, and prices tend to rise.
If you'd rather not deal with hot summer weather, September to November is a great time to visit the city. You'll enjoy more affordable hotel prices, fewer crowds, and comfortable 60 to 80 degree temperatures. Best of all, there are still many events to enjoy during the season, such as the Pumpkin Festival, Country Living Fair, and Highland Games.
To save the most money, planning a trip between December and March is your best bet. The cold temperatures and icy weather deter most tourists and force hotel and airfare prices down considerably. Although you will need a coat, you'll still be able to experience great wintertime events such as Stone Mountain Christmas and Snow Mountain.
The pleasant 70-degree temperatures of spring make April and May a great time to visit Stone Mountain. You can take advantage of affordable hotel rates and enjoy events such as Spring Fun Break, Easter Sunrise Service, and more. Just be sure to bring an umbrella and prepare to dodge occasional thunderstorms – the only downside of visiting Stone Mountain during the spring.
If you want to save money on your trip, take advantage of discounts at one of many great Stone Mountain hotels. Comfort Suites Northlake Tucker is an affordable hotel option near shopping, museums, and theme parks. AAA/CAA and Senior/AARP members can enjoy special rates on one of 110 suites featuring a microwave, refrigerator, flat-screen TV (with cable programming), DVD player, sofa sleeper, and more. Guests who plan on visiting Six Flags over Georgia and Six Flags White Water can enjoy even more special savings and perks. Hotel amenities include an outdoor pool with a sundeck and a fitness center. You'll also have access to complimentary breakfast each morning and free weekday newspaper delivery.
Stone Mountain Inn is conveniently located within Stone Mountain Park, and close to Lake Lanier Islands and downtown Atlanta. This 19th century plantation-style hotel offers AAA and AARP/senior discounts on its larger guestrooms, which are some of the roomiest in the Atlanta area. But no matter which of its 92 rooms you choose, you'll enjoy satellite TV programming and video game consoles for your entertainment, as well as wired and wireless Internet access. Each Southern-style room also includes a desk and a coffee/tea maker. At the hotel, you can relax by the outdoor pool, in the terrace and garden (with views), restaurant, and lounge.
Stone Mountain has plenty of hotels that offer great value for your money. Stone Mountain Manor is a beautiful boutique hotel situated in the city's historic downtown village. Its location puts you minutes away from Stone Mountain Park, Art Station, and Stone Mountain Carving and Summit Skyride. Each of its 10 charming bedrooms features complimentary Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and cable TV programming. Additional in-room conveniences include private bathrooms with premium amenities, ceiling fans, and optional rollaway beds for extra guests.
This colonial hotel also features an outdoor pool, concierge services, complimentary breakfast, a picnic area, and private wedding/event space.
For a hotel that's slightly more affordable, Hampton Inn Atlanta Stone Mountain is an ideal choice. This four-story property is close to many top attractions, including James R. Hallford Stadium, Art Station, and Stone Mountain Park. Its guestrooms feature comfortable pillowtop beds, complimentary Wi-Fi, cable TV programming, LCD TVs, and private bathrooms with complimentary toiletries. Hotel amenities include a fitness center, outdoor pool, complimentary hot/cold breakfast (also served in special On the Run Breakfast Bags), and babysitting services. The hotel offers additional value through its adventure packages.
No matter where you stay in (or near) Stone Mountain, you'll have access to Stone Mountain Park. This 3,200-acre historic attraction is famous for its natural beauty and fun activities. When visiting, make sure you check out the Lasershow Spectacular. Each evening, the laser show lights up the sky with stunning effects and fireworks that are viewable from one of many park terraces. The event is the longest-running lasershow in the world and is a must-see for anyone visiting Stone Mountain.
Another top park attraction is the Stone Mountain Carving and Summit Skyride. For up-close views of the Confederate Memorial Carving, hop aboard the park's high-speed Swiss cable car, which transports visitors over 825 feet into the air. Once aboard you can also view the top of Stone Mountain, the Atlanta skyline, and the Appalachian Mountains.
For an attraction that's on the ground but no less amazing, stop in to the Stone Mountain Museum at Memorial Hall. Here you can explore the artifacts and stories of Stone Mountain inhabitants spanning over 12,000 years. The museum features exhibits from ancient civilization, Native American, and present-day life. It even delves into the Civil War and explores how Stone Mountain granite was instrumental in rebuilding the city.
No matter which Stone Mountain Park attractions you include in your itinerary, you'll enjoy an amazing experience that only Stone Mountain can provide. Whether you'd prefer an affordable hotel minutes away from the park or a luxury one slightly outside of the city, you can find the right hotel for your needs – and wallet – in Stone Mountain.
