When to Visit Cleveland, OH

Due to its northern location on Lake Erie, Cleveland suffers from harsh winters and humid summers. You'll experience the most pleasant temperatures in April and May, and again in September and November. With that being said, there really isn't a bad time of the year to visit Cleveland. With year-round activities and a wide variety of attractions, Cleveland is always buzzing, so when you visit largely depends on what you intend to do once you get here. If you're the type of traveler who enjoys experiencing all four seasons, Cleveland has you covered.

Keep in mind, however, that the start of Cleveland's peak tourist season begins in mid-May, which is when hotel prices start to rise. From June to August you can expect higher room rates as everyone flies in to enjoy the summer months, but if you do plan to visit Cleveland during this time, be sure to bring an umbrella. Fall is actually the best time to enjoy the city's outdoor activities, but Cleveland continues to experience substantial rainfall during the month of September. Still, you won't want to miss the many green parks, football games, food shows, and outdoor festivals.

If you don't mind snow, December to March is a beautiful time to visit. You'll find the best hotel deals during the winter along with a number of winter festivals to keep you entertained. Being a northern city, Cleveland knows how to make the best of a long, frigid winter. Enjoy ice skating, ice hockey, a ride on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad, visit indoor museums, take a trip to A Christmas Story House, and listen to holiday music at the orchestra.

Best Discounts in Cleveland, OH

If you know where to stay and can plan your trip in advance, you can save even more money during your trip to Cleveland by taking advantage of discounts. Many hotels in the area offer AAA discounts on lodging and dining, so be sure to take advantage of special rates if you're a member. Some accommodations like the Wyndham Cleveland at Playhouse Square offer special travel packages that allow you to save on romantic getaways.

Depending on when and where you stay, you may even be able to book your activities along with your hotel to save even more on your overall costs. A few lodgings that offer this perk include the Red Roof Inn, Crowne Plaza Cleveland South/Independence, and Cleveland Marriott East, but be sure to call ahead and ask about any current specials.

Best Value Options in Cleveland, OH

Cleveland offers a variety of mid-range hotels that give you plenty of bang for your buck. The Radisson Hotel Cleveland – Gateway, is a straightforward three-star hotel within walking distance of Tower City Rapid subway station and Horseshoe Casino Cleveland. The Holiday Inn Express near Progressive Field is a smart option if you're hoping to stay downtown, as is the hip Aloft Cleveland Downtown. Other three-star options include Hampton Inn Cleveland-Downtown, Courtyard Cleveland University Circle, Glidden House, and Residence Inn Cleveland Downtown.

While finding a budget-friendly accommodation in downtown is difficult, the two-star Comfort Inn Downtown is one of the city's best values. You'll enjoy simple rooms, free WiFi, and an unbeatable location.

Expert Tips for Visiting Cleveland, OH

With so much to offer, it's important to maximize your Cleveland experience. If you're visiting the Rock and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, you're within easy walking distance of the U.S.S. Cod, the Great Lakes Science Center, the International Women's Air & Space Museum, and the Steamship William G. Mather. All of these attractions are located along the shore of Lake Erie, so be sure to set aside some time to explore the area on foot.

Don't forget to visit The Arcade. One of the nation's architectural gems, The Arcade was built in 1890 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Arcade itself was financed by John D. Rockefeller and served as a major center of commerce in downtown up until the 1980s. Today, it provides a great pedestrian walkway between Superior and Euclid Avenues. If you aren't staying at the Hyatt Regency Cleveland at The Arcade, the lower two levels of The Arcade are open to the public and are well worth walking through.

If you plan to visit the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, come prepared. The zoo is spread out and hilly, so wear your best walking shoes and bring strollers for the younger kids. A tram is available, but it doesn't run frequently in the off-season. Even so, this large zoo is one you won't want to miss thanks to its amazing African Elephant Crossing, hand-fed giraffes, and summer camel rides.

To truly experience Cleveland like a local, start your day off with breakfast at Jack Flaps before hitting the West Side Market. You'll also want to visit Platform Beer Co., one of the city's newest breweries, and the upscale Alley Cat Oyster Bar.

When planning a trip to Cleveland, it's best to explore your options. Prepare an itinerary of your favorite must-see attractions and hone in on a hotel that provides you with easy access to the action. Whether you need a cheap lodging or you're looking to splurge on an upscale accommodation with all the perks, you'll find a hotel in Cleveland, Ohio, to suit your travel budget.

'Oh, you hate your job? Why didn't you say so? There's a support group for that. It's called EVERYBODY, and they meet at the bar, are the hilarious words from Cleveland-born actor and comedian, Drew Carey.

It would be correct to say that Cleveland is the most crowded province in the state. The city is situated around west of the Pennsylvania fringe and in northeastern Ohio on the southern shore of Lake Erie. It was established in the late 18th century close to the mouth of the Cuyahoga River, and turned into an assembling focus attributable to its area on the lake shore, and being associated with various waterways and railroad lines. Cleveland's economy has broadened parts that incorporate assembling, money related administrations, medicinal services, and biomedical. The city today stands home to the Cleveland Clinic Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

"It's a beautiful city."
Score 5.0 / 5

The closeness in proximity to all of the various venues we visited (R&R Hall of Fame, Museums, Aquarium, Playhouse Square, Dinner Detective at Hilton garden Inn). We liked the cleanliness of the city and the variety of shops and monuments we could visit within walking distance to where we were staying. Traffic, for a big city, wasn't even comparable to another big city, like Chicago. Traffic was still pretty manageable and you could still get from point A to point B in a reasonable amount of time. We felt safe everywhere we went and you can see how much effort they have put into revitalizing Cleveland.

Rock n roll hall of fame was interesting and we were glad we went. One time is enough would not need to go again.Tried to find a reasonably priced restaurant for lunch on Lake Erie, not much info available. Would be nice to know what is available besides higher priced restaurants. My stay has been very expensive because of my husband's surgery and extended recovery needed. Would be helpful to have even a further discount when staying past two weeks. Or because a stay is needed because of illness, health issues that an additional discount would be offered.
