So I want all reviewers to know this before I proceed. I AM a manager at a Country Inn and Suites by Carlson, in MICHIGAN... and I can promise you that you will never ever encounter such disrespect from the front desk at my location, and cleanliness of the rooms as well.
Mind you, I was only staying at this hotel because I was attending funeral services the day of and day after my stay.
I requested a late check out. I was approved by TWO different people. Seriously, how about you communicate with each other and your housekeeping staff. Me and my pregnant sister were walked in on 4 different times starting at 8:30 am and on. I called down to the front desk twice and the woman who was working was so unprofessional and down right rude. It was unbelievable. I wont even begin to list all of the disrespectful comments she said. Personally, how she treated me in person and over the phone is grounds for termination for ANY club carlson property.
Making my reservation I had also requested to be in a room that had a fridge. Clearly, that didn't happen, and they were unable to move me to another room. Many of the television channels were not working. I found hair all over the shower, that was NOT mine. The appearance of the guest room was so outdated, I felt as if I was stuck in the 90's. This hotel is need of some TLC!! Being a Manager for Country Inn and Suites, I know exactly what the standards are.. and this hotel is so far behind.
By the way, you may want to enforce the dress code a little more too. Seeing the front desk wear a grey hooded sweatshirt the entire time was very appealing to me. I'm sure that it pulls a lot of business in for you. The standard scarf and tie would be much appreciated. I am surprised you are still a Country Inn and have not had your flag revoked.
I will never stay at this location ever again. Enough said. I mean, look at the travelers pictures from your hotel.. terrible. « less

Like everyone else, I've always had a good experience with Country Inn and Suites. Either the brand has really gone downhill, or this is just a bad place, but I'll never stay in them again.
Reasons:
1: Trash in room, carpet/bathroom floors dirty: Self-explanatory, but really, it isn't that hard to vacuum and pick large pieces of dirt/pop cans off the floor before the next guest comes. There were also many pubic hairs in the shower and the bathroom floor had hardly ever been mopped.
2: Old food left in the air conditioner: I wasn't about to fish it out, but it was there. It was either old food or vomit. We turned off the air conditioner that night.
3: The didn't have rectangular pillows...anywhere in the hotel: Yes. My wife and I slept on couch pillows. When I went down to the front desk, they told me, "wow, that's weird that a hotel would run out of pillows, but we did! Sorry!" And that was that.
4: Non-responsiveness of the staff: This place made my wife and me feel really gross, and so we called up hotels.com to get our money back. We couldn't because, get this, the hotel wouldn't answer the phone! Hotels.com tried numerous times, but no one would answer to cancel our room. I explained to the person from hotels.com that this should be a testament to how bad the place is, but she said her hands were tied. I won't be using hotels.com again, and definitely won't be staying at any Country Inn again.
It was surrounded by other sub-par looking places. My advice would be to just pay a little more and stay a little farther north in Polaris. « less

There was a toe ring on the carpet behind the end table along with cigarette ashes, there were cigarette burns on the microwave and tub, carpet had not been vacuumed nor had the bathroom floor been swept. I can' t begin to tell you how filthy the coffee maker was.
We have stayed in Country Inn and Suites from Marquette Michigan to South Carolina and have always been happy with the cleanliness of this chain, but this place UGH! « less

I have stayed at this property two times before and I am sad to report that it has really gone downhill and is not up to the usual standards for a Country Inn & Suites. The only real positive is that the staff are very nice. The room itself was clean but worn. The tub needs to be resurfaced; the shelf in the bathroom is peeling up and every time I used the hair dryer, it shorted out. Worse than this was the breakfast -- nothing but whole milk, watery apple juice, no cream cheese for the bagels, the timer on the waffle machine was broken, no stirrers for the coffee, etc. I certainly understand that occasionally items run out, but this hotel needs a complete refurbishment of its fixtures and needs to bring its breakfast standards back in line with what customers pay for an expect from this chain. « less
