I stayed at Howard Johnson this past February with a few friends. We chose the hotel because of its proximity to the seemingly endless number of restaurants on Upper James. The hotel was very easy to find from the linc.
We were not expecting much from our rooms because we received such a good deal, but were surprised by rooms that far exceeded our expectations in terms of overall room cleanliness and comfortable queen-sized beds.
We were greeted by attentive staff members upon our check in. Staff were particularly helpful in providing us with rooms in a quiet area on the lower level. Because it was a cold night we decided not to venture too far away from the hotel. We were pleased to discover that Yuk Yuk's tickets were complimentary us because we were guest of the hotel. Yuk Yuk's is attached to the hotel so we were able to enjoy our evening without having to worry about transportation. BONUS! We also appreciated the continental breakfast the next morning.
Don't be swayed by other reviewers. We would definitely return! « less

When i arrived at checkin the man at the counter wasnt all that friendly when we got to the room most of the lights did not work . During our stay though the rooms were very clean and the beds were comfortable. When i went to check out it took a long time and the lady at the counter didnt seem to interested in her job « less

Our room was in bad shape - carpet worn, walls pockmarked with holes where pictures seem to have hung at a previous time. Desk chair in rough shape. Curtains on the window were old and hung badly. The bed was comfortable, bathroom was clean, and the staff were helpful and pleasant, but the room was quite unpleasant at first appearance. I would not recommend this property or stay there again myself, but perhaps you aim at a different clientelle. The price was good, and we likely got what we paid for, but I expected better from Howard Johnson and from a Wyndham property. .

Rooms are run down and it gives an impression as if everything is falling apart. There were bugs in the bed - Still getting anti allergic tabs after a 2 night stay. Avoid staying here if you can. It gets quite noisy in the evenings - because of the hooters outlet downstairs. Cleaning staff seems to be trying its best to keep up but the building that probably needs a complete renovation cannot be kept up by mere cleaning. « less

Fighting in adjoining room on Friday night, carried from inside to outside parking lot and then on Saturday night, prostitute and male friends fighting in hallway, police had to be called. You need to change the opinion of your hotel in peoples eyes. If you want it to be a family experience, then you are lacking. « less
