The hotel is located moments from Jamaica station, New York, with transport links direct to JFK airport via the airtrain and to downtown Manhattan with the Long Island Railroad (to Penn station, 20 minutes) and to various other parts on the subway (Lines E, J and Z. E being the fastest at 40-50 minutes). The Subway being the cheapest option.
Location wise, its around half way between JFK and Manhattan and this hotel is certainly good value in terms of New York prices. However, you will see why.
The walk from the station is very easy and open and light. No issues there. The hotel reception is small but fine. I stayed here for 2 nights, after arriving from a late evening flight into JFK and wishing to spend the following day in Manhattan. For me, location was perfect for my needs.
I stayed on the second floor and was shocked at how dirty the room was. On first look, the room is an OK size and has the amenities you would expect. A coffee machine, a side desk, TV, shower gel and soap etc as well as a wardrobe with a iron and ironing board. The carpet was full of stains, the bed covers had random stains, scuffs and marks on and the bathroom floor had seen better days with dirt everywhere. The bed sheet also had a selection of small holes. Next to the bed where some wires not connected to anything, just freely laying down. A clock radio alarm is provided next to the bed, which did not work. The in room phone also did not work. An air conditioning/heating system is in the room with the temperature controller also not working.
As for noise, the hotel is opposite railroad tracks and a fairly busy road is outside so noise will be heard. Its not the hotels fault if a lorry wants to drive down the road. I had a room facing the road and railroad and was not disturbed by either. However, I was woken by fellow guests leaving their room during the early hours and wishing to be noisy about it.
Breakfast is provided with room rates in a small room adjacent from the reception. It is basic, but on par with most other breakfasts in the USA which are included with room rates. Cereal, coffee, juice and bagels etc.
Reception staff seemed a little lost. On check in, I had to ask for my passport back and also for the room key, which he had to take back as only processed it for 1 night instead of 2, after not welcoming me and seemed quite startled by the entire thing. The staff member on check out was a little more with the whole thing and looked after my suitcase after check out so I could make the most of the day prior to a night flight home.
The hotel is fine for a short stay and you do not have high expectations. I would only stay here again if I was arriving late and did not want to mess around with hotel shuttle buses from JFK. Instead, it would be easier to hop onto the airtrain straight here. If a big deep clean was to take place, I would rate the hotel as Average. Until then, I would not suggest staying here unless its a late arrival/early departure for a night. « less

This is a very, very average hotel by NYC standards. Small rooms, limited amenities. There is a free continental breakfast, which is always welcome. But the building itself is nonchalant and a bit dank. The reason to stay here is that it is simply very convenient when arriving late from JFK or if you have an early flight out of JFK. It's one of the most affordable options in the area that gives you immediate access to the airport (the hotel is literally across the street from the AirTrain and Jamaica Station). Bottom line: simple to get into the city, simple to get to the airport, and not too expensive. « less

We stayed at the Quality Inn Jamaica because we wanted to be close to JFK but have easy access to the city, and it served this purpose well. Its location two blocks from the station where the airtrain to and from the airport and the subway and railroad into the city meet was very convenient. We were pleased that a McDonald's and a couple of other fast food restaurants were nearby. On a previous stay we chose a slightly more upscale hotel closer to the airport but there were no restaurants in the area other than at one of the hotels and getting into town required a shuttle to the airtrain before connecting to the subway. Staying in Jamaica eliminated the shuttle and airtrain and shaved about 30 minutes off a trip into town and the airtrain to the airport was just as fast as the shuttle from our previous hotel.
The hotel is starting to show its age. Upon arrival you have to go down from the street to the lobby and the elevator was small and difficult to operate. Our room was small, the carpet needed cleaning, and the furniture was old but the bed was comfortable and we slept well. The neighborhood was very average. My son and I had no problems, but I'm not sure how comfortable my wife would have been staying there. A breakfast was inluded and offered waffles, fruit, and pastries. Overall we had a satisfactory stay. The hotel is convenient to JFK and much more reasonably priced than midtown hotels. « less

We stayed for one night during an extended lay-over. We specifically chose this hotel due to its location to Jamaica Air Train station and its links to the NYC Subway network. In this regard, the hotel was great - only 1.5 blocks from the station and very convenient for dumping luggage and then heading off into Manhattan. The ride on the E Train into the city does take a while (around 45 mins) but for us, this was outweighed by the convenience.
I was dubious about this hotel based other reviews mentioning the quality of the neighbourhood and the associated safety concerns. However, the neighbourhood is not that bad! It's definitely not the best area of New York but at no point did I feel unsafe. The area around the station always has a number of people coming and going from the airport etc and there's a police station/court house literally opposite the station.
The room was as expected - basic, small but clean and everything worked. The biggest downside for me were the thin internal walls which lead to an interrupted night's sleep. We had a room on the front of the hotel (5th floor) over looking the road and the Air Train tracks. There is adequate double glazing which meant that the noise from outside wasn't an issue.
A special mention is needed for the guy at reception - he took the time to chat to us on a couple of occasions and was really friendly.
Over all, a decent hotel which delivered on convenience, met expectations and seemed good value for money. You're not going to get luxury from this hotel but you can expect easy access to JFK airport and a hotel that does what it sets out to do. « less

If you are looking for a hotel with a great location that won't break the bank this is the place. Just across the street from the hotel are the stations for the Long Island Railroad, the NYC Subway, and the Skytrain to JFK. It was super convienent to get to and from the airport as well as inexpensive at about $5 each way. It is also very cheap and easy to get into the city. Just pick up a subway card and for $2.25 you can be in Manhattan in 35 to 50 minutes. The staff at the hotel were helpful and the room was clean and cozy. The rooms are definetly small, but a typical size for NYC. I reccommend this hotel if you want a clean, reasonably priced location that is close to all the action. I will definetly stay here again. « less
