I do not expect a 5-star stay in a 3-star hotel, but a lot of things could be improved.
First the positive things:
- The location is vey nice, close to tourist busses and boats - Convenient bus communicatons from right in front of the hotel - One of the reception staff was quite friendly - Nice view from the rooftop breakfast restaurant - The view from the rooms with balcony, facing the harbour is nice. I strongly recommend too book one of those (I had 602, maybe the best one)
- Not good:
- Deposit to be paid for the TV remote control(!) - The safety box was a real antiquity. To get a key, you need to pay a deposit + a daily fee (but the box was big enough for my tablet - No free WiFi (but most of the restaurants around will offer you this service for free) - The furniture need urgent repair or replacement - The fixtures in the bathroom threatining to fall off - Hotel not too clean, especially the breakfast restaurant was messy - Most staff not especially service minded - The reception is a untidy, all the broschures there were in a mess during the 5 days I spent there, the staff sitting 3 meters away, did not bother to clean up the disorder - The breakfast is very basic, you will survive but not much more
Most of the negatives above would not cost anything to remedy, only a change of attitude is needed. « less

I stayed for one week. Although the building isn't new, the service was excellent. The staff is very professional, and friendly without being intrusive. The buffet breakfast was excellent. I couldn't get TV reception, but I can't say what caused that. The room was a bit cramped, but clean. The trade off for a stupendous view from the window with balcony! The location is perfect as there is shopping, restaurants the ferry and busses, and carrozzine (horse and carriage). The general public is very friendly, men women and children, who chatted and joked and even invited me to their homes. I felt perfectly safe as a single woman traveling alone in Malta. When I go back to Malta I will stay there again. « less

First of all I am in agreement with everyone who says that the hotel is exceptionally well sited. There are bus stops nearby which allow you to travel into Valetta (where you change for most destinations on the eastern side and north of the island) or which go towards Bugibba, Mellieha and the ferry terminal for Gozo. With a little planning you can get anywhere without difficulty. Buy a bus pass (12 euros for 7 days) and let someone else drive - although not the worst place to drive in Europe it is a stressful activity
The room we stayed in was looking very tired - in fact it was due for the 'knackers yard'. It was in need of a good clean which it didn't get when we were staying there, the paint on the walls was marked , the power sockets were loose, the shower surround leaked and the mattresses were getting on a bit and not very supportive. On the bright side clean towels were provided as and when you asked for them.
We were staying B&B. Don't waste your time travelling to the 7th floor to eat it (but do take your camera up there at least once and take some holiday snaps as the view is tremendous). For 6.50 euros you can buy a full english breakfast in the coffee shop on the ground floor which begs the question as to how the staff on the 7th floor appeared incapable of cooking/producing a decent breakfast of any description. The7th floor was advertised in the ground floor shop as producing an 'enriched' continental breakfast - believe this and you will believe anything. Eat out!
If you want any extras in the hotel you pay. Thats for the TV, the room safe, a fridge, etc etc. As a previous reviewer has mentioned there are no coffee making facilities in the room so a travel kettle and the appropriate makings are advised.
Staff were polite and helpful as were all he people we spoke to during our visit to Malta.
As always the question is 'Would I stay again?' On this showing the answer is 'No'. « less

"The bid feature of the website is cool. Instead of the buyer committing blindly to the seller, the seller has to accept the buyer's terms and provide a price. We love it." J.K. - Lansing, MI
