When we drove up, we were worried. The hotel is a little dated but overall clean. My wife thought the bed was comfortable, but I didn't. The linens appeared very clean, and all staff were helpful and friendly when we had questions or requests. We had dinner at The Palms, which is located in the hotel, and WOW the food was fabulous. Everything was served hot and tasted fresh. This was the best surprise about the place. Hats off to the Chef. The breakfast the following morning was buffet and again very tasty. This hotel is several miles from the main downtown area but an easy drive. Would recommend for weekend getaway. « less

The hotel is older but very well maintained. The rooms are comfortable and it is located very conveniently to downtown Greenville. The real gem is the Palms restaurant located in the hotel. The breakfast buffet was included and it was wonderful....everything you'd want in a good southern breakfast. But...dinner was even more exceptional. My husband and I were delighted at the delicious dishes we ordered. The crab cakes are equal to the best you'd find at Charleston! We plan to return soon!!! « less

I stayed here with a friend while we attending a conference at the convention center, very close by. They are obviously working at bringing things up to snuff, so to speak, and some of their efforts in renovation are very nice. We had a number of minor issues, all of which were handled quickly, efficiently, and in good humor, even at night on a weekend. The staff was very responsive to each request. One of the most important features for me: the bed was very comfortable! The room was comfortable. we did have a large flat screen TV . We also had a microwave and refrigerator, provided for a nominal fee. the heating system was quiet and efficient. The breakfast was hot and good and the dining room is lovely. We were there four days and enjoyed our respite from the conference very much. « less

As a hospitality professional with more than 30 years in the industry, including having owned my own Inn for 7 years, I look at reviews from both a Professional and a guest standpoint, and feel like I have a balanced view on both. I am not an employee of the hotel, nor have any affiliation, but was recently a guest. I hesitate as to whether to comment first in the previous reviews, or on my personal experience, but feel I will start with the latter. I an truly amazed at the 'expectations' of some of these reviewers and would like to comment on a few For anyone who had legitimate complaints or issues, and did not address these with the hotel, not giving them a chance to correct the issue - and then to post them publicly, shame on you. Any business should be given a chance to "make good" first. Some of issues are really not issues at all. No iced water? There are real glasses in the room, running water and ice machines. No laundry bags? The hotel does not provide laundry service therefore I cannot understand the expectation of bags. I would suggest you tuck a few grocery bags into the corner of your suitcase. No flat panel TV? They do not advertise that they have these. The TV is a decent size and works perfectly well. No Internet plug? The wireless Internet works very well. No free snacks? Seriously you were expecting that? That is neither advertised nor should be expected. You may get a cookie at La Quinta, hors d'ouvres at a higher end B&B or cocktail hour in a 5 star hotel and then ONLY if you are on the Concierge Level. Expect to pay $175 per night upwards for this. Many complainers used the Travelzoo deal. It CLEARLY states it is dinner on ONE night only on a 2 night stay. It also clearly states that the dinner gratuity is added based on the FULL value of the meal, which it states is valued at $75. This, by the way, is standard for most dining offers on these special offer websites. For the person that had 2 rooms and only one person in the one room - if you did not feel it was good value for only one person, then you should have purchased the room and dinner separately, not expect the hotel to refund, adjust or change the way the offer works just for you. Don't blame the hotel for your error in not understanding the offer. The hotel does not advertise that it is in the center of the old downtown, please do your research before blaming the hotel for your misunderstanding of the location. With regards to some of the other issues, which may have changed since being written by previous reviewers. There is a big sign at the pool with many rules, and another one which clearly states no glass at the pool. The pool ladders are standard aluminum and looked fine. Yes some rooms are better located than others - if you want a pool view room, book one. Expecting to be upgraded at a hotel, is like paying for an economy seat on an airplane and expecting to travel first class.
In my personal opinion. If you are looking for a Ritz Carlton, or a standard cookie cutter hotel, the look elsewhere. No this is not a new hotel, having been built in the 70's but it is excellent value for money.
Every staff member I met was very pleasant to me. The room was clean and comfortable. It was quiet and had everything I needed, although very dim lighting. (No ceiling light or floor lamp), it's easy for people to tell management to 'fix things ' but the economy is tough and everyone wants a bargain. The pool area and courtyard area was pretty. I did not see stains on linens or any threadbare carpets. The towels seemed new. The lobby area is attractive. The dining room for dinner has a fireplace with sofas and lovely comfy armchairs. The atmosphere is nice and the food well presented and tasty. The breakfast is Buffett style and quite adequate. For the person that complained about no orange juice - did you ask? Because I did and it was served with no problem. Yes, the hotel can certainly do with some renovation, but I certainly did not experience or see what others complained about. « less
