After writing a long letter describing my experience at the Richmond "hotel" while flying home from a conference in Miami Beach in early March, I decided not to post it online due to finally thinking that I had my say with the managing staff (though getting there was a painful process consisting of multiple requests) and thinking that I didn't want to cause unnecessary drama or ruin anyone's livelihood. Though my experience was one of the worst hotel experiences I have had in my entire life, I had let this go until I returned to this site and read the post of cammy1874. At that point, I realized that the problems have not been fixed and my discussion with management was useless. I realized I had to share my story to warn other innocent travelers.
My problems began when I was told upon my arrival in early March that they did not have my room available because of a "computer problem" several weeks before - never mind that I had called and discussed my reservation only a couple weeks before arriving and was never told that there was a problem with the reservation. Just today, I saw that cammy1874 was told the same thing in May. How could a computer problem has last months? Either the staff is blatantly LYING all the time, or they really have a computer problem and people should know upfront that they can't handle schedule reservations properly. If the latter is the case, KNOW THAT YOU MAY NOT HAVE A ROOM EVEN IF YOU RESERVE ONE! THEY HAVE COMPUTER PROBLEMS!
I am not going to post the page-long document that described the unsafe and disrespectful treatment I received as I was unwillingly transferred to the Richmond Studios and attempted to reach the owners to discuss the situation (by the way, don't believe that they want to hear your complaints - as it says on the website). "There is no other option for a place to put you tonight" they said. Interesting that the "only option" (the Richmond Studios) is owned by the same people...isn't that financially convenient? Had it not been late at night, and had I not been exhausted and crippled by foot pain, I might have fought harder. I should have been put in another hotel, not on the first floor of a motel with no security (anyone could have climbed through a window in the middle of the night at the Richmond Studios).
It was interesting how the person at the desk seemed to have no problem finding my reservation...until the manager stepped out from an office, took one look at me, and kicked me out of the hotel. Whether or not this was the case, it felt like they took one look at me (I look younger than I am and was a woman traveling alone) and they decided that I was someone who they could move to the Studios. Actually, my company was paying for my travel, so cost was not at all an issue for me.
From what I can gleam from reading through reviews... IF YOU HAVE A ONE OR TWO NIGHT RESERVATION, THERE IS A HIGH PROBABILITY THAT THEY WILL GIVE YOUR ROOM TO SOMEONE ELSE.
It looks like you may be fine if you are booking a trip for four or five days (at least). FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO NEED A PLACE TO STAY FOR ONE OR TWO NIGHTS, DO NOT BOTHER MAKING A RESERVATION AT THE RICHMOND HOTEL. I understand that they are a business just trying to cover there bottom line (we all understand that), but if you value your personal experience and peace of mind that you will have a place to stay when you arrive, MAKE YOUR RESERVATION SOMEWHERE ELSE.
I have seen multiple postings of this happening to others, and like they say, for every one you see, there may be more that didn't bother to write (like me until now). Buyer beware. « less

It is a small little art deco hotel, very subtle compare to the ones around it but so ciut and cozy! I went with my sister (we are french canadians, used to travel) and we really loved the place. The staff was super nice and was ready to give some good tips about the area ( a big thanks to Paskaline). We spend four nights and it was not enough. The pool and the spa outside are super nice, and clean. Lots of shades. The only thing is on the beach, we have to pay for the umbrella and the long chairs....but it is Miami....and it is worth the money, haha! Beach is super clean and the service is there. The food at the little restaurant is okay and the rhum and cokes are delicious, ha! Seriously, since it is not an expensive hotel, you have more than what you pay for. And super nicely place. Everything is near: Lincoln Road, Ocean Drive, Espanola, etc. Everything is at a walking distance. And I do not know if it was the crowd of that weekend but everyone was respectful, while having a great time !!! We recommend this hotel and we will be back. « less

We are sorry about your great inconvenience regarding your motorcycle and how it has so negatively impacted your one-night visit at our property. Virtually no hotels that we are familiar with in South Beach can assist with motorcycle parking (due to insurance restrictions). You were directed to a public lot two blocks away whose manager has assured us that they provide special motorcycle parking facilities. Had you called us prior to reserving, this situation could have been avoided. Unfortunately, this one issue led you to post this very negative review and report negatively on every facet of our property: we believe this to be unfair. Once again, we apologize for this great inconvenience to you both.

My wife and I spent four nights at the Richmond. It was an exceptional experience. We had an amazing ocean front room which was very nicely appointed. The beachfront informality of the property made for comfortable access to the beautiful pool, and the beach. I am a dermatologist and there was some nice shade around the perimeter of the pool. But for the sun worshipper there was plenty of that as well. The staff was always at work maintaining the property under the watchful eye of the general manager, Stuart Weintraub who runs a tight ship. Finally, I liked that the hotel has been owned by the same family, the Herberts, for many many years. It's not the Ritz-Carlton, but its the perfect beachfront property. « less

we loved our stay at the richmond, it was our first time to sobe. the hotel and rest of the public area's are beautiful, great pool area and right on the beach. the only complaint i would have is this - i called a few days before our vacation to see if there would be anymore charges i would need to pay when we arrived. the person at the hotel told me no everything was taken care of. well we were on our second day of our vacation and my card gets denied, i called and it was $200 from the hotel. i asked the hotel about it and they told me it would be put back on my card 3-4 days after we checked out. its a huge deal but wish i was aware of it before hand or they could have told me about it when i called. also we asked the front desk when the pool closed and they said 7pm (we thought that was early) so we didnt swim, the next day we walk through the pool area at 8:30pm and there are people swimming and having a good time :( i was bummed we could have been out there too. other then those two minor things it was a great experince and a great hotel from the price we paid. great location! we ate the breakfast and it was good and not to expensive. « less

Thank you very much for staying with us! We are sorry for the confusion, but just like other hotels, the temporary hold that was placed on your credit card was to cover any incidental charges during your stay (this is standard to the industry): any unused credit is released as you check-out. While we are thrilled that our guests enjoy our beautiful pool area, we are interested in maintaining the safety and enjoyment for all of our guests; and begin closing down the pool and jaccuzzi at sunset each day (many of our guest sit on the pool deck during the evening). We look forward to welcoming you back soon!

"This is one of the best services I have seen so far on the internet. I was placed in charge of the hotel and park for our Family Reunion in September and in 2 weeks I was able to meet with several Sales Personnel at many different hotels. They were prompt responding directly from you Website. I will recommend this service to anyone planning a big event." K.B. - Milwaukee, WI
