I went online to pay for my room. I ended up being charged twice for one night. This happened the last week of Dec, 2012. I informed them of the error the next day. I was told I would be reimbursed immediately. 6 weeks later, nothing. Called the corporate office, who was managing the hotel at the time, was told that I would be sent a check within a week. Now it's 2 months later, still nothing. Told by the hotel manager today, that my situation has to be "approved", and that a check would be mailed out this week. I was told by corporate that it was approved 2 weeks ago. And there is no one at the new management office that I can talk to. They will not repay me. Do not stay here. I will tell everyone I can about this. I don't even care about the money I have lost, it is the principle of this. Very frustrated. « less

I was a little worried about staying at this hotel after the mixed reviews I read, but I didn't think it was as bad as some people have said. I've definitely stayed in better places, but have also been in worse ones. Upon arrival, the front desk clerk was very nice and checked us in without a problem. He even pointed out that the rate we had been assigned was too expensive (by $5/night) and fixed it for us. We had requested a non-smoking room, but when we got to our room, it smelled like smoke and there were cigarette burns in the comforter. We asked to be moved to a non-smoking room (as labeled by a sign on the door which the first room lacked), and were quickly switched. The second room was okay. It still had a strange smell, which I can only describe as "old hotel" and "used to be a smoking room but no longer is," but it had everything we needed to stay the night. The furniture was sort of banged up and there were a few cracks in the paint, but the bathroom was nicer than I expected. The beds were kind of lumpy and I had trouble sleeping because the state of the hotel made me wonder who/how many people may have stayed in the room before us. The walls are also very thin. We could hear our neighbor's tv throughout the night and I was woken up by him coughing at one point. We decided to check out after one night and stay down the street because we just weren't comfortable staying at the Sun Suites (but we would have survived if we had stayed). All in all, it wasn't exactly disappointing, but I don't think I'll try and stay there again. It's very true that you get what you pay for at this place. « less

When we checked in, I asked about bringing my dog to stay with us. First, I was informed that my room was not one of the "pet friendly rooms." The manager said that even if it was I could not have him there since he was over 20 pounds. I told the staff he was a service dog (I have MS), they asked to see his "paperwork." Since I am an employee of a hotel, I am well aware that asking for so-called paperwork is a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Bottom line, what they did was illegal.
Also, the wifi was down the entire time we were there, I will NEVER!!!!! stay at another of your hotels. « less

Management response from Sun Suites Suwanee GA General Manager, Guest Relations Manager
Dear Tiffany M:
First I would like to apologized for any inconvenience you experienced during your stay with us, as the hotel supervisor mentioned to you all pets needed to be under 20 pounds in order to be aloud to stay at the hotel acording to the hotel pet policy, with the exception of service dogs, since the hotel was not told at the check in time that your dog was over 20 pounds and a service dog, that's probably why you were asked later about the size of the dog, I apologized that you were asked about the dogs papers and also about the internet not working, unfortunatly during your stay there were several locations with the internet down due to an outage in the main server and out of the hotel's control. We are deeply sorry about all this and hope that in the near future you may give us another chance to show you what Sun Suites is all about, Thanks and have a great day.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel on our way from SW Florida to the Smoky Mountains. We made the reservation because the room was inexpensive, near to a friend we wanted to visit, and the reviews were not completely negative. We determined that the room we had was a reasonable value for what we paid.
The pluses for the room and hotel are: it's cheap, Close to the interstate, many restaurants nearby, and if you want to cook in your room to save money, it has a small, but full kitchen. These rooms were built to be mini-suites to be used for extended stays.
The negatives include: very small for a suite, small shower, toilet so low to the floor that I thought I was sitting on a child's training potty, incomplete or used toiletries such as broken soap bars, and possible bedbugs since I felt I had things crawling on me while in bed; if not bedbugs, then probably roaches.
All in all, I would recommend this hotel if you are on a budget, are only staying for one night, and you check the room thoroughly for bugs. It was cheapest hotel on our vacation at $46 per night. « less
