Property Description

The Grange is a gorgeous Georgian country house hotel with comfortable 4-star guest accommodation listed in the AA's Best British B&B Guide. The Grange is in the Old Village of Shanklin on the south coast of the Isle of Wight. Nestled in greenery, it is very secluded. Yet it's only moments from the thatched pubs and cosy tearooms, the local train station, shops and restaurants and, best of all, the long sandy beaches. Light and spacious, high-ceilinged dining room leads into the bar area with access to an outdoor terrace for cooler evenings spent sitting out under the stars. Beyond, into the garden you can take your morning coffee and relax amidst the sound of birdsong. There are two chalets outside, one of which has a sauna for guest use and a room set aside for massage treatments, and the other is designated as the yoga and movement room. You will be accommodated in one of our 15 double or twin bedrooms, all recently refurbished to a high standard, with most enjoying views of the sea or downs. You can book a double room, a twin-bedded room or single occupancy of a double room for which there is a supplement per night of £25. Wireless connection to the internet is available free of charge. We provide a sumptuous breakfast to set you up for the day ahead. Breakfasts are usually between 8am and 10am. We use the freshest ingredients, locally produced where possible. Breakfast includes fresh fruit salads, natural yoghurts, a variety of cheeses, freshly baked croissants and, of course, hot traditional breakfasts. Vegetarians are always catered for.

THE GRANGE – ECO POLICY The Isle of Wight is aiming to have the lowest Carbon footprint in England by 2020 and we are trying to help with that target. Here at The Grange we are trying to do our bit to reduce our carbon footprint. Use of local products Wherever possible we try and use fresh local produce especially in our kitchen. Milk, eggs, bacon, sausages, cheeses are all produced here on the Island. We are now looking for local jams and honey. Use of local staff More than 80% of the staff live locally. We also encourage them to walk to and from work and happily the majority do. Bathrooms Encourage re-using of towels (only towels left on the bathroom floor will be replaced) Energy We switch off all lights and appliances at night. Lighting a typical office overnight wastes enough energy to heat water for 1000 cups of tea. We turn off unused office equipment, including laptops and photocopiers, at source. Lighting within the Hotel is by passive infra red and on timer switches Kitchen We will be Installing recycling bins in the staff kitchens. Heating Staff ensure heating is on at the right level and not too hot so people will have to open windows. We have reduced the heating by one degree. Recycling We encourage recycling in many ways. All single sided printed material is stapled into booklets and re-used for notepaper. Waste materials are sorted for recycling wherever possible. All our waste is sorted and recycled. Bookings We have made available downloadable versions of literature from our site to reduce reliance on printed brochures and encourage online booking as an alternative to paper-based methods.
